Two Students + Boulder, Kisumu, Kenya, 2006

Tempted to visit the Kenyan images again tonight and pulled this one out of two students. We arrived a bit late to this school and were forced to make images under the harsh sunlight. The children performed with incredible patience, even took on their own positions rather than following everyone else. It was wonderful to see the play between best friends, how one reacted to the other's serious expression, then how both exploded in laughter after the image was made.

For three weeks we visited elementary schools, institutions for the mentally and physically challenged, a group for widows living with HIV/AIDS… and such experiences changed me for the better. This was where my work took on a more social tone, and one that makes me happy to revisit eight years later.
